There are two 55KW booster pumps at the site, each equipped with a soft starter for starting purposes. The starting modes available are voltage ramp soft start and current limiting soft start – which one should be chosen? If choosing a voltage ramp, what value in seconds should be set for the soft start time?

Look for the instruction manual; it explains the two startup modes. It seems we always chose the current-limiting mode before. As for the time, there should be recommended values in the manual as well – it seems we always used 2 minutes

The calculations are rather complicated, and most manuals provide recommended values – it’s best to avoid triggering alarms. For current-limiting soft start, it is necessary to determine the nature of the load, as soft start involves voltage reduction during startup; with a low current-limiting factor, the torque generated may not be sufficient, which can trigger protection mechanisms. It is recommended to set the device’s current-limiting factor at 3.6–4 times, and to increase this value slightly each year.
