Gases are generally controlled using ball valves or globe valves, with globe valves being particularly common. It is mainly due to requirements regarding sealing performance. Gate valves have poor sealing properties and are generally used in pipelines such as those for water. Hydrogen molecules are small, and high sealing requirements apply; therefore, ball valves and globe valves are recommended. For adaptation, globe valves are usually the preferred choice; I haven’t heard that gate valves are more commonly used.
