During the planned shutdown for maintenance, the reciprocating compressor has operated for 5,000 hours. What checks are carried out after it is shut down? Should components such as the crankshaft and crosshead be inspected in detail?

For some compressors whose operating load is less than 2/3 of the design value, a random inspection is sufficient; however, those devices that are started and stopped frequently need to be checked. Some of the components mentioned above need to be replaced.
As for the rotating parts, there’s no need to say it – they must be checked. It is advisable to test the oil injection pump during the downtime, and check the intake valve and exhaust valve.
