Hello everyone. Hydrogen production plants generally have ammonia injection and phosphorus injection facilities – what is the function of each?
Ammonia injection is used at the start of operation when there is no hydrogen source available; it involves the decomposition of ammonia to produce hydrogen, which is then used to reduce the conversion catalyst and the medium-temperature catalyst. I have never heard of phosphorus injection
Ammonia injection, phosphorus injection, and deoxidizer injection are all thermal processes aimed at ensuring that the boiler feed water meets the required standards.
Ammonia is added to regulate the pH value of the drum, while phosphates are used to prevent scaling in the drum
Refer to GBT 1576 – Standards for Water Quality in Industrial Boilers. To be precise, dilute ammonia water is added to the boiler water in order to adjust its pH value to the required level. The addition of phosphorus should be referred to as adding phosphates (sodium triphosphate or sodium hydrogen phosphate) to the boiler water; this is typically done through the addition of chemicals. The purpose of this is to react the calcium and magnesium ions present in the boiler water with the phosphates, thereby preventing scaling inside the heat exchange tubes. Chemical deoxygenation involves the addition of hydrazine.
