Besides steam flushing, what other media can be used to flush the backwash filters in hydrogenation units?
The product oil is soaked and then purged with nitrogen; now it is being purged with fuel gas instead

Generally, filtered oil is used for flushing, but nitrogen is also employed in many cases. When backwashing with pressure difference is not effective, steam is used for cleaning, which can extend the service life of the filter elements. Using fuel gas for flushing is inconvenient because the contaminated oil contains flammable gases.
Typically, oil sludge tanks are equipped with a vapor line connected to the flare system, through which fuel gas enters the flare system from the top of the tank via this vapor line.
