Evonik partners with Zeopore to introduce a new heterogeneous dewaxing catalyst

Recently, Evonik announced a partnership with the Belgian technology company Zeopore to introduce a new generation of heterogeneous dewaxing catalysts that can significantly improve the efficiency of producing high-quality fuels and lubricants. 　　It is said that this new series of catalysts combines Zeopore’s unique mesoporous molecular sieve technology with Evonik’s extensive experience of over 75 years in catalyst design and the use of precious metals. This enables refineries and renewable fuel producers to improve product quality and process efficiency, while also increasing the yield of high-value products. 　　By optimizing the pore structure of the molecular sieve, the new generation of catalysts significantly improved the ability of reactants to reach the active sites, enhanced the isomerization reaction, and effectively reduced unnecessary cracking reactions. This not only improves reaction selectivity and reduces the formation of light gas by-products, but also enhances the efficiency of hydrogen utilization. Overall, these advantages help to increase the processing capacity of the equipment while reducing overall carbon dioxide emissions, making them particularly suitable for the processing of difficult-to-process or renewable raw materials. 　　Performance test results show that, in diesel dewaxing applications, this catalyst reduces product loss to one-fifth of that of traditional solutions while maintaining higher catalytic activity. In base oil production, new catalysts can recover a considerable proportion of the lubricating oil products that are typically lost during the dewaxing process. Its unique mesoporous design renders the catalyst insensitive to isomerized dewaxing feedstocks, allowing it to maintain excellent conversion performance in a variety of hydrocarbon streams and enabling oil refineries to increase the production of low-carbon fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.
