The heating for sulfur recovery is adequate, but there is always poor circulation in the sulfur containment tank; only some dark, viscous liquid sulfur can be discharged. What is causing this? Are there any effective solutions?
That black, viscous substance is likely to be substances contained within the olefins, accumulated as a result of conditions upstream
Liquid sulfur appears black, and this is usually caused by incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon substances; it is recommended to increase the air supply ratio appropriately to ensure that the value indicated by the ratio meter is negative
If you are using fuel gas normally with an accompanying burner, there could be two reasons: 1. The fuel gas contains heavy components, resulting in incomplete combustion. 2. Acidic gases contain methanol, resulting in incomplete combustion. There is also black sulfur that is produced at the beginning of the driving process; it is not emitted on-site but is collected in a sulfur containment tank
In most cases, this is due to a small amount of methanol in the acidic gas stream and insufficient air supply; it is recommended to drain the liquid from the first cooler for a few minutes per shift
The acidic gas went straight into the combustion furnace without being washed with water; methanol was definitely present, but this situation did not occur in the early stages
The blended combustion fuel gas is not being fed; methanol is definitely present in the acidic gas
An excessively high heat tracing temperature can also have an impact; could the viscosity be due to the high temperature?
It shouldn’t be a problem with the heating steam. This is because the heat tracing steam is usually low-pressure steam generated within the sulfur recovery unit, with a temperature of around 145°C. It’s probably because the acidic gas is too dirty. It is recommended to add a filter at the sulfur sealing inlet.
Increase the system pressure to break through the sulfur seal, and do this once after a while.
This approach cannot be used, as it involves certain risks: on one hand, it may cause injury to people, and on the other hand, it can lead to a poor condition of the surrounding area.
