The rich liquid side is often the side that is heated. It’s rich liquid again, with a high concentration of volatile components. Heating can easily lead to vaporization and overpressure, causing safety accidents.
If what you say is true, and there are safety valves on both sides of the emergency water cooling heat exchanger, how can this be explained?
The specific process is unclear; it can only be guessed that it might involve rapid cooling in a water system, with a temperature change of possibly 4°C. Water is a special substance; above 4 degrees Celsius, it expands when heated and contracts when cooled, while below that temperature, it expands when cooled and contracts when heated. If the pipeline becomes blocked at this time, a safety valve is needed to release the expanded volume and protect the equipment.
Check the difference in design temperature and design pressure between the hot and cold fluids in the heat exchanger; there may also be concern that high-pressure fluid could enter the low-pressure side, and safety valves are available to release pressure promptly:D
