Is it meaningful to purify hydrogen sulfide?
Some enterprises can improve the purity of hydrogen sulfide through a process of acid gas purification. Generally speaking, this method can increase the purity of hydrogen sulfide to over 99.99%. However, this method requires complex equipment and techniques; it is costly and difficult to operate. Purifying hydrogen sulfide is not always meaningful in all cases. In some applications, extremely high-purity hydrogen sulfide is required, such as in the electronics and semiconductor industries. At this point, the purified hydrogen sulfide must meet specific purity requirements. However, in other industries such as petrochemicals and metallurgy, hydrogen sulfide with relatively low purity can still meet production requirements. For the synthesis of basic organic sulfides, the purity of hydrogen sulfide used generally does not need to be very high. The hydrogen sulfide obtained through conventional acid stripping can be used after removing moisture and obvious impurity components; moreover, most operations are not carried out using high-purity hydrogen sulfide. High-purity hydrogen sulfide is used only in the electronics industry and a few research fields. It is typically stored and transported in liquid form; when needed, it is vaporized and then diluted with an appropriate inert gas (usually pure nitrogen) prior to use. Generally, a purity of 2N is sufficient for liquefied hydrogen sulfide, while liquefied hydrogen sulfide with a purity of 4N is not widely used in practice.
