The device is purged before it is put into operation. What exactly is flange cleaning? I’m not quite sure; could everyone please explain? Points will be given, thank you

Flange purging involves introducing purge gas along with debris at the flange being cleaned, with the main purpose being to prevent debris from entering the equipment located behind that flange. When performing purging, it is necessary to cover the flange opening with metal sheeting. Blow clean in front of the flange before closing it, and then blow clean from the back. The flanges that are unscrewed are usually those at the equipment inlet. If there is no purging steam at the inlet and outlet of the device, but purging is carried out from inside the device toward the flanges at the inlet and outlet, then unscrewing such flanges serves merely as a vent point; however, this situation is less common these days. If both ends of a pipeline can be supplied with steam, and there are control valves and measuring instruments on the pipeline, then the control valves should be turned off and the measuring instruments removed, allowing purging to take place from both ends towards this area. For orifice plates, they are generally installed after purging. In special cases, only when there are newly installed pipe sections before and after the existing orifice plate is it necessary to remove the orifice plate for purging; once purging of that pipe section is complete, the orifice plate is installed again.
