I would like to ask fellow sailors: for equipment such as pump seal oil tanks that have coils inside, where the circulating water flows through these coils, the cooling capacity decreases over time. How do you clean the bends in the circulating water pipes? Chemical cleaning or nitrogen purging – are there any other tricks? Can the temperature of the pump seal oil be reduced during the hot summer months? Additionally, I saw some useful tips from forum members: during the summer, when temperatures are high, in order to achieve an effective cooling effect that facilitates production, it is advisable to install compressed air purge valves on the inlet pipes of each cooler. Performing regular purging on a daily basis is very beneficial for improving the cooling performance of the coolers. Has anyone done this before? How is it carried out specifically? Is the circulating water still in normal operation mode during air purging?
The circulating water system did experience blockages, which were cleared by knocking and tapping; there’s no really good solution to this issue – not enough attention is paid to it.
The key point is that it isn’t completely blocked, and the coil for the circulating water is right inside the seal oil tank, so it’s impossible to hit it even with a hammer. Headache.
If cleaning is really necessary, consider chemical cleaning, but it seems like the investment is too high and the system is too small; the management won’t approve it
Prevention is key; it’s best to install filters at the inlet of the circulating water pipeline. The cost of adding such filters to the equipment is not high, and it’s advisable to install two of them – one in use and one as a backup. By controlling the quality of the circulating water at the source in this way, the circulation water lines used for cooling can be made relatively thin; the use of filters may result in a reduced water flow. Considering the quality of the water, it is advisable to employ two stages of filtration, using different mesh sizes for the first and second stages.
