The 6S elements are interrelated, with sorting, straightening, and cleaning being the specific actions; Cleaning refers to institutionalizing and standardizing the practices of the above 3S, as well as implementing and maintaining the resulting outcomes ; Competence refers to fostering in each employee the habit of doing things properly and following rules. It is easy to implement 6S, but maintaining it over the long term requires an improvement in competence ; Safety is the foundation; we must respect life and eliminate violations of regulations. Then, 6S management in the workshops across the entire enterprise is particularly important; if the workshops implement 6S management effectively, then half of the success in achieving 6S management throughout the enterprise has been achieved. I. Sorting in 6S Management 1. Organize and arrange office items on desks and in drawers neatly. 2. The items on the storage rack should be arranged neatly. 3. The passages are unobstructed and tidy. 4. Equipment and materials in the workplace should be neatly arranged, with no unnecessary items placed there. II. Sorting in 6S Management 1. Parts are positioned and arranged with uniform labels for clear identification. 2. Tools and molds are clearly positioned, properly labeled, and easy to access. 3. Each area in the workshop has designated 6S responsibility zones and responsible persons. 4. The machinery and equipment are regularly maintained, with maintenance cards in place; they are kept in good order and in optimal condition. 5. Position the tools properly and carry out regular maintenance. III. Cleaning in 6S Management 1. Keep passages clean, store items in the work area neatly, and ensure there are no debris on the floor. 3. Keep office desks, work surfaces, and the surrounding area tidy. 4. Windows, walls, and ceilings are clean and tidy. 5. Tools, machinery, and equipment must be cleaned at all times. IV. Cleaning in 6S Management 1. Clearly demarcate work areas in passageways to ensure smooth flow. 2. Perform “6S” tasks for 5 minutes before going to work and after coming back from work each day. 3. Correct any non-compliant situations promptly. 4. Maintain the results of organization, tidying, and cleaning, and make improvements. V. Competencies in 6S Management 1. Employees must wear name tags. 2. Wear factory uniforms that are clean and properly maintained, with neat and presentable appearance. 3. Employees have a team spirit, help one another, actively participate in the “6S” initiatives, and have a strong sense of time. 4. Employees behave in a civilized and polite manner, and are warm and generous towards others. 5. Employees are full of enthusiasm for work. VI. Safety in 6S Management 1. Do not drink alcohol before starting work, and do not smoke in no-smoking areas. 2. Safety warning signs are placed in key hazardous areas. 3. Comply with safety operating procedures to ensure the smooth progress of production and avoid damaging property.
Some Sinopec companies are currently implementing 5S or 6S management systems, and if this is carried out successfully, it will represent a qualitative leap for standardized management as well as the overall appearance of chemical enterprises.
