Many factories these days require 6S management, and the amount of insulation to be removed and installed during major maintenance is enormous. How can insulation management be carried out to ensure that the work site remains clean, tidy, and hygienic? Please share your experiences so that we can learn from each other. Let me start by saying that under normal circumstances, I remove the insulation first, then put everything in large bags and stack it together. But it doesn’t look good. Is there a better way?
Before maintenance, the insulation from the equipment and pipeline flanges that need to be disassembled can be removed and placed in bags; those that can still be used should be kept nearby for easy reinstallation once work is resumed. The damaged or defective insulation should be collected together and stored at the location designated by the company for such purposes.
To standardize, one must not be afraid of trouble; to save resources, one must not seek simplicity. It’s the same as in daily production management: if it’s right to keep the environment tidy, then coordination among team members is necessary. The removed materials should be placed neatly, and those that can no longer be used should be packed in waste packaging and promptly transported to the waste disposal site ; By disassembling more carefully, it is possible to recover more materials, but this requires more effort and a stronger sense of responsibility; of course, the advantages and disadvantages need to be weighed
Large-scale inspection and maintenance tasks are generally characterized by tight deadlines and heavy workloads in production. From the perspective of resource allocation, there simply isn’t enough manpower to carry out such detailed work. Is there a more convenient way, with the goal of achieving a neat and clean appearance?

Our approach is provided for your reference: the items that have been removed are stored separately, depending on whether they will be reused or not; it may not be possible to achieve 100%, but 80% should be achievable. Stack them in a nearby location to ensure that road traffic and visibility at the work site are not affected. For lightweight waste items such as insulation materials, it is best to pack them in large plastic bags or woven bags so that they can be taken away (lightweight debris can still be cleared out on a daily basis). If it’s not possible to remove them from the area, then, as mentioned earlier, they should be placed temporarily in a nearby location.
