On August 11, reporters learned from Jilin Petrochemical that the company has successfully put into operation a project for recovering cold energy in the liquid nitrogen washing unit of its ammonia synthesis plant. By using the newly added heat exchangers, excess cold energy is converted into power for production, enabling efficient recycling of energy. During the production process in ammonia synthesis plants, the liquid nitrogen washing unit generates a large amount of excess cooling capacity. After thorough research and simulation calculations, the technical team at Jilin Petrochemical decided to add a new heat exchanger, E0606, between the liquid nitrogen washing unit and the low-temperature methanol washing unit. This allows the excess cooling capacity generated by the liquid nitrogen washing unit to be reused through the transfer of nitrogen to the low-temperature methanol washing unit, thereby enabling recycling of that cooling capacity. During the project implementation, Jilin Petrochemical’s technical team developed a detailed commissioning plan, specifying key steps such as the replacement of equipment and pipelines, pre-cooling, and the introduction of materials. They also carried out thorough purging and airtightness checks on the heat exchangers and associated pipelines to ensure there were no leaks. After the project was put into operation, the nitrogen temperature in Tower T0503 decreased by 10 degrees Celsius, and the amount of heating steam required for reheating was reduced by about 500 kilograms per hour, thereby significantly cutting energy consumption. With the effective utilization of cold energy, the problems of freezing and water accumulation around the liquid nitrogen collection tank D0602 have been fundamentally resolved, resulting in a significant improvement in the production environment. Jilin Petrochemical will continue to explore new technologies and methods for energy conservation and emission reduction, contributing to the sustainable development of the enterprise.
