There is an exhaust gas absorption tower with a height of approximately 3.7 meters and a diameter of 800 mm. The bottom of the tower is flat, and the design pressure and design temperature are at normal conditions. The medium involved poses a moderate level of hazard. What should be the thickness of the tower’s bottom plate, and how is it calculated? (I used an 8mm cylinder.)
Is it necessary to add foot bolts to the tower base plate? I would appreciate some advice from those with more experience
This type of structure is generally not recommended, as it does not allow for full penetration welding across the entire cross-section, which leads to high stress concentrations. At the same time, under various loads, the weld area develops a high-risk cross-section, which compromises the welding seal strength and service life. There are also structures with foot bolts at the bottom, but there are also fixing constraints on the sides and top as well; careful handling is advised. If you create the design yourself, it’s better to choose a different structural style. :)
Such thin anchor bolts are essential. It’s only possible to use as a rough reference the number of revolutions of tank 50341. In short, it doesn’t seem very reliable. It is still recommended to change the design to a vertical container with lugs. When it comes to manufacturing equipment, meeting process requirements and ensuring sufficient strength are of top priority.
If the equipment operates at atmospheric pressure, it can be designed in accordance with the standards for equipment under atmospheric pressure. Due to the high height-to-diameter ratio, and for stability reasons, it is recommended to use 4 anchor bolts. The thickness of the base plate cannot be calculated; it is selected based on engineering experience.
