For the three-bed dry absorption units, regular packing is replaced, and scattered stepped rings are added to the upper layer of this regular packing as foam-catching packing. In the case of a tubular acid separator, such foam-catching packing is installed at the upper and lower edges of the separator. In my opinion, assuming no impact on flow resistance, installing the foam-catching packing at the upper edge of the separator helps to reduce the amount of acid mist entering better than installing it at the lower edge, thereby improving the efficiency of the foam catchers or mist eliminators in capturing foam
Don’t rely on assumptions; fog catchers in engineering systems can have problems, and the foam-catching fillers are not as efficient as you might think
I think it’s sufficient to install it at the bottom of the acid distributor and cover the acid distribution tube. Otherwise, the smoke will crowd between the acid separation tanks, which is not good for absorption and also increases the amount of acid mist carried.
Well, generally, for smaller-sized bulk stepped rings, it’s sufficient to bury them up to the mouth of the acid separation tube; using too much of them may increase resistance. Our company simply eliminates this practice and doesn’t bury them at all – in tube-type acid separators, they remain exposed
Personally, I think the lower edge of the acid distributor is a good option – it doesn’t cause too much resistance and can address the issues of acid mist and liquid entrainment. After starting the machine at our factory, we found that liquid entrapment was quite severe.
