What components in coal tar can cause corrosion to equipment after 2 months of operation?
Now, for pumps used in the chemical industry, corrosion-resistant pumps are selected according to the medium requirements. The selection was not made in accordance with the design requirements.
It’s only been two months; corrosion shouldn’t progress this fast. The choice was wrong.
It’s still a matter of material selection; coal tar isn’t exactly something special.
Coal tar contains sulfur, which is corrosive; moreover, the heat generated by the rotation of the pump causes coal tar to decompose into carbon dioxide and water, producing acidic substances such as carbonic acid, which then react with sulfides to form corrosive materials
