Generally, pump outlets are equipped with safety valves. When a pump is taken apart for maintenance, is it necessary to open the bypass for the safety valve?
The safety valve at the pump outlet is designed to prevent overpressure at the outlet; removing the pump eliminates this risk. Moreover, safety valves are usually connected to the flare line, and opening the bypass valve could cause gas from the flare line to back up, thereby creating potential hazards at the maintenance site.
