I am a manufacturer of water pumps, and usually we install the motors supplied to chemical plants directly on the pumps before shipping them. However, this time the customer has requested that the control box and the connection cables be connected together and shipped as a complete set. We don’t have any practical experience in handling such connections. The explosion-proof motor in question is of type Ex dIICT4 Gb, with an IP65 rating, a power of 5.5 kilowatts, and it is a 4-pole motor. What standard should these connection cables meet? Can we simply use the cables we normally use, adding a flexible sleeve to them? I sincerely hope to receive some guidance from all of you experts. Thank you! In accordance with the explosion protection requirements of Ex dIICT4 Gb, it is recommended to give priority to the following three points: The cable must be a flame-retardant and explosion-proof cable that meets the GB3836.1-2010 standard, with a core cross-sectional area of at least 2.5 mm² (the exact value should be determined based on the current required by the 5.5 KW motor). Flexible sleeves should be made of metal bellows and properly grounded; it is important that both ends of the sleeve are secured using explosion-proof sealing joints to prevent the generation of static electricity. It is advisable to check whether the technical specifications provided by the client include any specific requirements in this regard. Typically, in chemical industry projects, cables of models such as CEFR/YCW are specified. In one of our previous projects, the supervisor required us to provide certification documents proving the explosion protection properties of the cables, so it is best to prepare these in advance.
