Can the fuel tank of a centrifugal pump be cleaned with diesel?

The oil tank of one of the pump units I have is very dirty. Can it be stopped so that diesel can be poured in to clean the tank, and then the oil can be replaced with fresh oil? Thank you, please share your thoughts; extra points for that
Disassembling the pump completely should make it possible to clean the interior of the bearing housing; after cleaning, new bearings can be installed, fresh oil added, and then the pump can be reassembled.
According to the SKF bearing manual, it is possible, but there are a few points to note: 1. The cleaning agent must be free of water； 2. It must be disassembled before cleaning ； 3. It must be rotated slowly during cleaning ； 4. Thoroughly replace with fresh fluid after cleaning ； 5. Clean the filter screen located below, check for impurities, and replace the bearing if necessary.
