I’m a newcomer to the chemical industry and would like to learn more about accumulators. I’ve never seen accumulators on pumps before; could any expert provide some information? Thank you very much!
In hydraulic systems that use piston pumps with a small number of pistons, periodic changes in pump flow cause vibration in the system. By installing an accumulator, it is possible to absorb a large amount of energy from pressure and flow fluctuations over one cycle of these fluctuations. The portion of oil with an instantaneous flow rate higher than the average flow rate is absorbed by the accumulator, while the portion with a flow rate lower than the average flow rate is replenished by the accumulator. This absorbs the energy in the fluctuations, reduces these fluctuations, and thereby minimizes damage to sensitive instruments and equipment. For centrifugal pumps, it is generally used in the PLAN53B seal flushing system to provide a pressure source for that system.
So, in other words, it’s mainly the effect of stabilizing pressure, right? Are there any other functions?
The main functions of an accumulator are to store energy, absorb hydraulic shocks, eliminate pulsations, and recover energy
There is this device on the outlet pipeline of the metering diaphragm pump; its main purpose is to reduce fluid pulsation!
What type of accumulator’s working principle would you like to know about? Is it the one with a mechanical seal according to API53B standards, or one used in chemical processing equipment?
