The VS6 type propylene transfer pump has a normal operating temperature of 20 degrees Celsius; however, the design team has specified that the extreme operating condition is -45 degrees Celsius, on the grounds that flashing will occur at this temperature when the pump is empty. Does this temperature affect the selection of mechanical seals? The pump manufacturer recommends using a spring seal; is it necessary to use a bellows seal? Also, when the propylene pump is emptied, is it vaporized directly inside the pump and then sent to the flare? Could some expert help answer this?

A spring can be used as the compensation element for the mechanical seal; extreme operating conditions correspond to emergency situations, during which the pump should stop operating. The probability of such situations occurring is very low.

Pour the liquid first and then release the pressure; the temperature doesn’t drop much. Take your time; the device indicates a minimum temperature of -45. Try to avoid rapid cooling or heating of the device during operation.
