Are there any industry standards or guidelines regarding the switching of pumps and the schedule for changing lubricant during normal operation? What do your respective organizations do?

There are no industry standards; everything is determined based on individual circumstances. The amount of lubricant to add is specified in the pump’s manual.
Yes, it depends on the condition of the pump itself; with an oil level of 1/2 to 2/3, pumps installed outdoors need to have their lubricant replaced every six months. For the rest, regular inspections are carried out to detect issues promptly and replace components in a timely manner.
Here, we have one in use and one as a backup, with switching options available on a 24-hour basis or on a weekly basis; the choice depends on the convenience of operation and the workload of the valves; For outdoor pumps, it is essential to pay attention to waterproofing the bearing housing; any issues should be identified promptly and addressed by replacing the lubricant or cleaning the pump’s bearing housing

Pumps are usually switched off only when they are damaged, and the problem is generally leakage in the mechanical seal; after all, starting and stopping cause the most damage to the mechanical seal, so it’s important to minimize the number of times they are started and stopped. Lubricant is generally changed every six months.
