Can gear pumps be widely adopted?

As we all know, gear pumps have an efficiency of over 95%, offering significant energy-saving benefits. Then why haven’t they been widely adopted in the chemical industry over the years?
Gear pumps are widely used in the chemical industry – such as gear oil pumps, gear-based polymer extrusion pumps, and so on. However, gear pumps require a medium with a certain viscosity
They are mainly gear pumps with high flow rates and high pressure. For example, the flow rate is 400–500 m3/h, and the pressure is 3–4 MPa.
I’ve never worked with high-pressure systems, but I’ve dealt with many large gear pumps – VIKING’s internal and external gear types. Back then I was working on ABS production, processing polymers, and using FLENDER reducers.
What is the maximum size of gear pump you have worked with? Why is a reducer still needed? Is it because the speed of the gear pump cannot be too high?
Each type of pump has its own inherent characteristics, so it’s a bit difficult to promote them on a wide scale
