The pressure at the outlet of the piston pump acting on the receiving equipment is 6 MPa; the medium is water. Can gas be forced into the receiving equipment when the liquid level in the tank at the pump inlet is low? The maximum capacity of the piston pump is 650 m³/h – is it possible for a mixture of gas and liquid to pass through the pump and enter the receiving equipment at 6 MPa pressure?

A pump needs to operate under certain suction pressure conditions; when the liquid level drops to a certain extent, the pump’s suction pressure is no longer sufficient for optimal operation, and the outlet pressure also fails to meet the required standards. For such issues, it’s best to address them on a case-by-case basis. If it’s about pumping air into the pump, then it depends on whether the flow rate is high enough to create vortices in the liquid; or if the liquid level is too low; or if it’s hot water involved. Additionally, a low inlet pressure may not be sufficient to maintain the required flow rate, resulting in negative pressure that causes the liquid to vaporize (cavitation). Otherwise, it will not enter the gas.

All positive displacement pumps are the same. When gas is inhaled, the pump loses its pumping power or produces insufficient power. Check the inlet pipeline for leaks and inhale. Is the plug packing seal tight?
