Previously, it was only known that there were design pressure and operating pressure in static equipment; but now, the design pressure and operating pressure of centrifugal pumps are also listed in the equipment records. How should one determine the values to enter? I’m a bit confused.
Design pressure refers to the pressure at the outlet of the water pump under normal flow conditions. Working pressure refers to the pressure at the outlet of the water pump at zero flow rate.
From the perspective of pressure-bearing components, just like in stationary equipment, the design pressure of the casing must be higher than the operating pressure, as this provides a certain safety margin. From the standpoint of pump performance, the design pressure at the pump outlet is the outlet pressure at the rated flow rate; the operating pressure, on the other hand, is the outlet pressure under actual operating conditions
Operating pressure refers to the pressure under normal conditions; the design pressure should be considered as 1.2 to 1.5 times that value.
Where does this 1.2 to 1.5 times figure come from?
The design pressure is the pressure that the pump casing can withstand, and it comes in values of 0.6/1.0/1.6/2.5; this can be considered as the nominal pressure. The operating pressure is the actual pressure at the pump outlet; it does not refer to the head, but rather to the actual pressure at the pump outlet while the pump is in operation.
