Pumps are essentially required in all chemical engineering projects. Some clients have mentioned that due to issues such as leaks, dust, etc., the motors and pump bodies of these pumps become heavily contaminated (as no maintenance or cleaning of the equipment is carried out). Now they are asking us to design a protective cover for them. Do any of you have experience with such applications? Let’s discuss the relevant regulatory requirements; Location of the protective cover installation, and the overall impact of the cover on the pump ; If there are professional manufacturers, please contact them within the platform
Generally, only corresponding protective covers are installed on the motors, while it seems that protective covers are rarely added to the pump body, mainly because maintenance is inconvenient in that case.

When a protective cover is added to the motor housing, it is essential to carry out heat dissipation calculations conducted by the motor manufacturer; heat dissipation must be taken into consideration. If the heat dissipation does not meet the required standards and the motor’s temperature rises above the acceptable level, have you thought through the consequences? It is necessary to install a protective cover on the coupling.
Conventionally, the coupling is protected; by default a coupling guard is provided, but it can also be customized to the design shown in the image below: guards are installed on both sides of the mechanical seal at the pump head end.
For pump motors, it is possible to request that a rain cover be included when placing the order; basically, as long as you are willing to pay, any kind of cover can be added. Whether it’s useful or not is up to the customer to decide.
Now I understand that considering adding a motor guard is also an option; heat dissipation will definitely be affected, as these are indoor pumps and the temperature can reach 50 degrees in summer
Thank you for the advice. The cover for the coupling is available; what the owner is concerned about now is the possibility of leakage from other areas falling onto the pump. I’m not sure whether to install a cover over the entire unit or just over the affected area. As for the heat dissipation calculations, I’ll ask the pump manufacturer to see if it’s possible to handle that as well
The coupling has a protective cover, but the seal area doesn’t; it’s sealed separately, so in case of leakage it’s not easy to detect
