The manufacturer of the main unit is Shenyang Blower, while the dry gas seal is provided by Fox. There is a problem: the pressure difference between the main sealing gas and the balance pipe for the dry gas seal is too high, as shown in the figure below. The current methods of adjustment involve using a self-acting control valve for the main sealing gas along with a bypass valve; however, due to the high pressure, the self-acting control valve is not very sensitive in its operation. During attempts at adjustment, the pressure of the main seal dropped suddenly to 0, causing abnormal noises in the centrifugal unit. Fearing that this could lead to a shutdown, no further actions have been taken. I have two questions I’d like to ask the netizens: 1. What causes the high pressure difference in the main sealing gas and the balance pipe for dry gas seals? 2. What are the effects of operating in this manner for a long time?
As you already know, it’s because the balance tube control valve is not sensitive enough. Remove the control valve; under unchanged operating conditions, use a bypass line for regulation. Fix the control valve, and the problem will be solved.
What is the pressure difference in the reaction system? Otherwise, it could be a problem with the control valve. Why a stand-alone control valve? Shouldn’t it be a control valve?
What is the purity of the recycled hydrogen? Could it be caused by light hydrocarbons in the recycled hydrogen or by liquid presence?

We have also encountered this issue with the dry gas seals in John Crane, and this is how we handled it: we adjusted the needle valve behind the flow meter for the primary seal gas.
It is likely that the pressure difference across the valve is too high, exceeding its capacity to regulate it; reducing the opening degree of the manual valve before the control valve can lower the pressure difference before and after the control valve. Currently, the flow rate of the main sealing gas is too high, which is not conducive to the long-term operation of the filter.
This pipeline can’t be removed either; if it could be taken off, would that mean it’s blocked?
Is it caused by changes in the pressure at the inlet and outlet of the press?
