Sampling pump issue

Experts, I have a question. In one of our company’s reaction kettles, the sampling pump doesn’t allow any material to flow out from the sampling port when the valve leading to the kettle is opened; however, sampling is possible when that valve is closed. The reaction vessel is at atmospheric pressure, with an exhaust port leading to the atmosphere. The sampling pump is a magnetic pump; the inlet valve is 1 inch, and the sampling valve is 6/8 inch.
Because if your valve is opened too wide, it would be sufficient to control the degree of opening, or to place the sampling valve at the lower end. Another issue worth noting is that such a setup may allow air to be drawn in when the sampling valve is opened, for your reference.
