Dajiucaiping is located at the junction of Xingfa Township, Baiguo Town, and Shuitang Township in Hezhang County, 30 kilometers away from the county seat. The main peak is 2,777 meters above sea level, making it the fifth highest peak in western Guizhou. The slopes are covered with leeks, but these leeks are not edible. They are about 60 cm tall, and their flowers are purple; they bloom in August and September each year, and it is during this time that the Leek Plateau Yi Culture Festival is held. Hezhang County focuses on developing tourism, investing substantial funds in the construction of scenic areas; roads have now been built to the top of the mountains, and cable cars have been installed. While developing tourism, Hezhang County also pays attention to ecological protection. It has successfully held the Jiucaiping Yi Culture Festival on several occasions. The purpose of this festival is to boost the development of tourism in Hezhang County, to showcase its beautiful landscapes, as well as the culture of its ethnic minorities; tourism is set to become an emerging industry in Hezhang County
The Liangzi in Jiucaiping runs from northwest to southeast, with a gentle and long southern slope and a steep and short northern slope. The Liangziling range stretches above the peaks, surrounded by surrounding mountains; there are peaks atop other peaks, and ridges beyond yet more ridges. The Liangziling range is extensive, with massive mountains; its ridges are high but not steep or dangerous. Only in a few areas does the petrology exhibit karst landforms. Most of it is grassy hills, with lawns covering the ground like carpets; here and there there are arrowgrass and shrubs. Herds of livestock move about like clouds, while skylarks fly through the air, singing their melodies. To the east and west of the main peak, there are two secondary peaks that support the main peak from both sides, resembling the shoulders of giant giants. On the north and south sides of Liangzi at its eastern and western ends, mountain ranges extend symmetrically in four directions, giving rise to four groups of small hills. With their numerous peaks and lush forests, these hills serve to highlight the main peak, making it appear even more towering and majestic. It can truly be described as \"towering peaks above the mountains and seas, and steep peaks on the ridges of the great mountains.\"
The Jiucaiping Scenic Area belongs to the warm-temperate cool climate zone, featuring low summer temperatures, an altitude suitable for human living and agricultural activities, as well as distinctive natural geographical features and biodiversity. According to statistics, in the mountainous area of Jiucaiping at an altitude of 2,000 meters, the average temperature during summer (from June to August) is between 17.8 and 22.4 degrees Celsius. The highest temperatures generally range from 23 to 28 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperatures are between 16.7 and 20 degrees Celsius. Days with extreme maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are very rare; thus, the climate conditions in summer are highly suitable for mountain retreat and summer tourism.
Da Jiucai Ping is part of the Wumeng Mountain range. According to local folklore, Da Jiucai Ping and Xiao Jiucai Ping, which is located not far away, were once a couple; Xiao Jiucai Ping represented the male partner, while Da Jiucai Ping represented the female partner. Xiaojiucaiping has male plants that are strong and robust, while Dajiucaiping has female plants that are gentle and soft, possessing a motherly kindness. During the season when the leek flowers bloom, the entire area is covered with them, turning Jiucailing into a place of brilliant beauty. These flowers bloom in August and September each year, creating a colorful and magnificent scene; the whole mountain range turns into a sea of purple.
