Praxair, the U.S.-based gas company that recently completed its merger with Linde, announced on its official website that it will supply industrial gases such as oxygen and nitrogen to Shanghai Huayi Group’s integrated chemical materials project located in Qinzhou, Guangxi. This will be Plex’s largest investment in China to date, amounting to several billion dollars; however, the company has not disclosed the exact figure. It is reported that Praxair will build, own, and operate three large-scale air separation units at the Qinzhou facility, to supply 7,500 tons per day of oxygen and 5,000 tons per day of nitrogen to the Hua Yi Group’s integrated new materials project in Qinzhou. The new air separation equipment will begin supplying gas to the Qinzhou New Materials Integration Project in the second half of 2020. It is understood that the Hua Yi Qinzhou Chemical New Materials Integration Project is located in the Petrochemical Industrial Park of Qinzhou Port Economic and Technological Development Zone. It represents the largest single-project investment by Shanghai Hua Yi Group in nearly 10 years, as well as having the shortest construction period; it is also a coal chemical project of symbolic significance for the group’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative. The total investment for the project planning is around 70 billion yuan. The first phase, the industrial gas complex, commenced construction in November 2017 with an investment of about 13.6 billion yuan. It will produce industrial gases such as hydrogen, syngas, and nitrogen for use by enterprises within the park, as well as chemical products like methanol, ethylene glycol, and acetic acid; completion and operation are expected by 2020. The second phase involves olefin and downstream processing projects to manufacture products such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), with further development of fine chemicals like butyl octyl alcohol and high-performance materials, thereby creating a integrated chemical new materials industry base in Huayi Qinzhou.
