From December 11 to 14, 2021, a lifting system consisting of 48 large hydraulic lifts successfully raised the 6,000-ton steel structural floor trusses to their designated positions. Thus, the most critical lifting phase of the new Luoyang Science and Technology Museum project was completed, and China’s largest complete aluminum alloy spherical structure was unveiled.
The five-story heavy truss structure serves as a steel structural platform that connects the four towers together; a cross-shaped truss in the middle supports an aluminum alloy dome theater with a diameter of 33.23 meters, making it the largest aluminum alloy dome structure of its kind in China. The floor truss that is being lifted this time consists of an ultra-large-span, irregularly shaped floor truss along with an aluminum sphere at the center; its total weight is 6,000 tons. The area that needs to be lifted is 11,000 m2, and the lifting height is 18.17 meters. The span of the floor trusses is 54m, while at the intersection points the truss span reaches 76m ; The diameter of the central aluminum spherical structure is 33.23 meters.

I remember during the construction of a new urban area, there was a sculpture in front of four large buildings belonging to the city government – four pillars supporting a ball. The locals jokingly referred to it as “four leadership teams supporting a ball”. Finally, the group statues were replaced again.
