The Kuche green hydrogen demonstration project is the first of its kind in China to utilize photovoltaic power generation on a large scale for hydrogen production. The project covers an area of approximately 500 mu, with a total investment of around 3 billion yuan. The first phase of the project includes a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 300 megawatts and an annual power generation output of 618 million kilowatt-hours, a hydrogen production facility capable of producing 20,000 tons of hydrogen per year, hydrogen storage tanks with a total capacity of 210,000 cubic meters, hydrogen pipelines with a production capacity of 28,000 cubic meters per hour, as well as various supporting power transmission and distribution facilities. Since its commencement in March, the green hydrogen demonstration project in Kuche, Xinjiang, has seen orderly and vigorous progress in its construction; to date, 880 million yuan has been invested, with the first production line scheduled to start producing hydrogen by October 30. On June 5, visiting the construction site of the Kuche green hydrogen demonstration project, workers were busy laying the main pipelines and building fire pump rooms. The project has now completed its civil engineering foundations and is in the process of constructing its structural elements. The fire protection pipes in the surrounding area are being dug and installed in the trenches at the same time, and work on the main structural elements such as bricklaying and formwork support is progressing at full speed; the site is bustling with intense activity.
With strong support from all parties, the project is currently advancing at an accelerated pace. As a concrete action taken by Sinopec to achieve its \"dual carbon\" goals and an important measure to promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry in China, its completion and operation will play a demonstrative role in effectively reducing carbon emissions and helping to build a hydrogen-based society. Mao Yanyun, deputy general manager of Sinopec Xinxing Petroleum Company’s Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd., said, “The project is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2022, with the first production line starting to produce hydrogen on October 30. It is expected that 20,000 tons of green hydrogen will be produced throughout the year, thereby reducing carbon emissions by around 500,000 tons.” ” (Wang Longjiang, Li Dong) (Xinjiang Correspondent Office of China Daily)
