Replies will be rewarded – discussions are welcome. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ According to news from Shandong Energy Group in September 2022, the world’s first pilot plant for producing acrylic acid using the acetic acid and formaldehyde method has successfully generated qualified products at Lunan Chemical, part of Shandong Energy Chemicals. It has operated continuously for 168 hours, marking the completion of the entire process for this pilot project. This project represents the world’s first pilot plant for producing acrylic acid using the acetic acid-formaldehyde process, with a capacity of 1,000 tons per year; the process technology was provided by Southwest Research Institute and Selenis. In May 2020, Southwest Chemical Industry established its Lunan R&D Center as well as a key laboratory there. Subsequently, Selenis (Nanjing) Chemical Co., Ltd. signed a tripartite agreement with Southwest Chemical and Yankuang Lunan Chemical to build a pilot-scale unit (PSU) at Lunan Chemical, using the acetic acid-formaldehyde condensation process jointly developed by Selenis and Southwest Chemical to produce acrylic acid. Mori Matsu Heavy Industries was responsible for the detailed design of the modular components and the construction of the modular units.
