China Energy Engineering Group North China Institute is responsible for the general contracting and design, while Shanxi Electric Power Construction Company undertakes the construction work. The first batch of concrete for Boiler No. 1 for waste heat recovery in the project has been successfully poured, marking the entry of the project into its substantive construction phase and its full commencement. This important milestone indicates that the project will be completed successfully in the near future, providing a strong impetus for the development of the energy sector in Asia and around the world. Located in the High-Tech Industrial Park of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, this project features the first unit equipped with the 9HA.02 type gas turbine, which is the largest and most efficient of its kind in Asia. It is capable of burning a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen, and it represents the first H-class gas turbine project in Zhejiang Province. Characterized by high parameters, high efficiency, low emissions, and excellent peak-shaving capabilities, it is a key project for clean thermal power generation under Zhejiang’s 14th Five-Year Plan. The scope of the project construction includes the entire process, from all civil works at the site, the procurement and supply of equipment and materials, construction work, installation work, commissioning, technical services, functional testing up to acceptance and handover for production, as well as defect repair and maintenance services during the quality warranty period. This project boasts several advantages, including high-parameter design, efficient operation, low emissions for environmental protection, and excellent peak-shaving performance. Once completed, each unit will be able to generate 2.527 billion kWh of electricity per year, while the two units together will be capable of producing 5.054 billion kWh, demonstrating a strong power generation capacity. In terms of energy consumption, one unit consumes 409.8 million cubic meters of gas per year, while two units consume 819.6 million cubic meters. During peak electricity demand periods, this project is capable of generating power using hydrogen, allowing for flexible adjustment of the production volume of green hydrogen and thus effectively enhancing the capacity to utilize new energy sources. This helps advance the development of Zhoushan International Energy Island, supports the establishment of a new type of power system based on new energy sources in Zhoushan, and injects new momentum into the sustainable development of the region.
