Tianqi Lithium is building a pilot project in Meishan to produce 50 tons of lithium sulfide per year

On the afternoon of the 1st of the month, Tianqi Lithium stated at its semi-annual results briefing for 2025 that the company has successfully completed the preparatory work for the industrial production of lithium sulfide, the key raw material for the next generation of solid-state batteries, and is continuing to work on improving product quality as well as optimizing cost-reduction techniques. In response to the demand for lithium sulfide from downstream sulfide solid-state electrolytes, the company’s pilot project for an annual production of 50 tons of lithium sulfide has been put into effect and construction has begun. The project utilizes newly developed technologies and equipment for lithium sulfide production, featuring low risk and the capability for rapid mass production; it is planned to be built in Meishan, Sichuan.
