According to Orchid Group, on March 29, 2026, with the last Saiding gasifier being carefully and precisely installed in place, it marked the completion of the upgrade and renovation project aimed at improving energy efficiency and environmental protection for the 5 Saiding gasifiers operated by the coal chemical company. The Shanxi broccoli coal chemical project has newly installed 5 Sideng gasifiers with a diameter of φ3800mm and a pressure of 4.0MPa (4 in operation and 1 as backup). Gasification is carried out using local 15# non-high-quality smokeless coal from Jincheng, which has a high ash content and high sulfur content. Once the project is completed, energy consumption and environmental emission levels will be significantly reduced. Compared with existing projects, the emissions of the main air pollutants, namely particulate matter, SO2, and NOX, are reduced by 169.63 t/a, 350 t/a, and 525.07 t/a respectively. The upgrade of Shanxi cauliflower coal chemical industry involves the use of 5 pressurized continuous gasification units manufactured by Saiding Company to replace the 37 batch gasification units used in the 3 existing coal chemical enterprises. The project utilizes coal crushing under pressure combined with medium-pressure waste boiler gasification; the gas is cooled through shift conversion, and then purified via low-temperature methanol washing and liquid nitrogen washing. The resulting syngas is sent to the ammonia synthesis unit, while the existing urea production facility is upgraded, resulting in an annual production capacity of 490,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 560,000 tons of large-grain urea. In addition, 94,400 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) were produced as a by-product, along with 56,200 tons of 98% concentrated sulfuric acid. The upgrade of industrial technologies does not increase the company’s existing capacity for producing ammonia (alcohols) and urea within its integrated facilities.
