At 4 a.m. on November 16, good news came in from Qinzhou, Guangxi – the 50,000-ton/year 1-hexene unit of the Guangxi Petrochemical Integration and Transformation project, which is under the general contracting of Huanyu Daqing Company, successfully completed the entire production process, achieving successful operation with the first batch of feedstock used. This milestone achievement marks a breakthrough for the company in the production of high-end olefin products; it not only fills the technical gap in this area for the company itself but also provides strong impetus for the upgrading of China’s polyolefin industry. As China Petroleum’s first and largest-capacity 1-hexene facility, this project utilizes the ethylene trimerization process technology for the production of 1-hexene, which was independently developed by Huanqiu Daqing Company in collaboration with Daqing Petrochemical Company and Daqing Chemical Research Center. The core technologies are 100% domestically developed, and the key equipment is 100% of domestic origin. Building on the proven experience from the two previous industrial plants with capacities of 5,000 tons per year and 20,000 tons per year, the project commenced construction in November 2023. During the construction period, the team faced challenges such as limited construction space and frequent hot and rainy weather. By continuously optimizing the production processes and strictly controlling construction quality and material supply, they improved the efficiency of the installation processes, energy consumption levels, and ease of operation. Ultimately, the project was completed to high standards on May 30, 2025. To ensure the smooth progress of the commissioning trial run, Huanqiu Daqing Company dispatched 3 key design professionals who, together with industry experts assigned by Dushanzi Petrochemical, formed a support team. Working hand in hand with the project team and the employees of Guangxi Petrochemical, they upheld the excellent work ethic of \"hard work and dedication, as well as strict standards,\" to oversee the entire commissioning process. The team systematically identifies potential risks, works together with patent holders to develop solutions, and optimizes the operational plan by drawing on experience from similar devices, thereby avoiding technical risks in advance ； To address the challenges associated with process adjustments and equipment calibration, technical training is provided through hands-on on-site instruction and practical exercises, aiming to convey key operational principles and emergency response strategies, thereby helping the operation team master essential skills quickly. Thanks to the efficient collaboration of all parties, it took only 12 hours from material feeding to the completion of the entire process. The purity of the 1-hexene produced was 99.69%, which exceeds the industry’s standards for high-quality products, and this result was highly recognized by the client. The successful first-time feeding of this equipment is not only the result of the hard work and teamwork of all members of the project team, but also a vivid example of independent innovation and the development of new forms of productive capacity. Next, the project team will also focus on ensuring the long-term stable operation of the facility, continuously monitor the performance of key equipment and optimize process parameters, promptly address potential operational risks, strengthen regular training in maintenance skills, and promote steady increases in production capacity and improved efficiency, thereby contributing more to the high-quality development of China’s advanced polyolefin industry.
