Recently, the main welding work for the 48-inch gas pipeline project at the West Qurna Phase 1 oil field in Iraq was completed. Since welding began in mid-May 2025, the project team has coordinated the construction efforts, arranged the work schedule in a scientific manner, and focused on the critical task of welding the main pipeline to ensure standardized construction throughout the process. During construction, the area is subject to high temperatures and frequent sandstorms, there are strict security requirements in place, the available working time is limited, and the conditions on site are extremely harsh. In the face of a complex environment, the project team emphasizes both safety and quality, continuously improving work permit management and quality control during welding processes to ensure smooth progress of tasks and risk management throughout the entire process. For the first time, this project applied fully automated welding techniques on a systematic basis in the Iraqi market, achieving successful implementation of such techniques for large-diameter pipes and providing valuable practical experience for the Iraqi market. As the main construction team, the CPP210 unit of Pipeline Company 2 strictly adhered to the process parameters and quality standards, providing strong support for the efficient completion of the welding tasks on the project’s main pipelines. To date, the main route of the project has seen 3,570 welding joints completed, with a total construction length of 45.19 kilometers. The first-pass welding success rate reached 99.18%, the welding quality was kept under control throughout, and the construction results fully met the requirements of the client and project management.
