The hydrogen cracker unit, the largest single piece of equipment in the refining support project for Luoyang’s million-ton ethylene project, was recently installed. At the construction site of this project, upon the command given by the lifting supervisor, a 1,600-ton crawler crane raised its arm high, with a 400-ton crane coordinating its actions – thus staging a remarkable display of aerial lifting. The distillation tower being lifted this time is the largest single unit in the hydrocracking unit, which is part of the refinery infrastructure; it can be regarded as the \"giant heart\" of this unit. With an outer diameter of 5.4 meters and a height of 63 meters – equivalent to 21 floors – the tower contains 70 layers of tray supports, and its total metal weight exceeds 220 tons. The main crane gradually applied force, the steel cables tightened steadily, and the new distillation tower slowly rose; the 400-ton crane used to assist in guiding it worked in tandem, carefully adjusting its angle. Once the tower was vertical with respect to the ground, the 400-ton crane removed its hook and left the site, while the 1600-ton main crane took over. It slowly rotated its boom to lift the distillation tower and place it steadily on the 24-meter-high base.
