Recently, the Dajiji gas field, China’s largest coal and shale gas field located in Shanxi, has achieved an annual production capacity of over 4 billion cubic meters, becoming an important source that contributes to the growth of China’s natural gas production. The Dajiji gas field is China’s first coalbed methane field to be developed on a large scale, with an average burial depth of 2,130 meters and proven geological reserves of 400 billion cubic meters. At present, the gas field has a production capacity of 4 billion cubic meters per year, accounting for over 80% of the total domestic production of coalbed methane. Not long ago, CNPC invested 15.46 billion yuan in coalbed methane in Shanxi. The Department of Ecology and Environment of Shanxi Province has accepted the environmental impact assessment documents for the second-phase capacity expansion project of the Linfen Dajiji coalbed methane field operated by CNPC Coalbed Gas Company. It marks the upcoming large-scale development phase 2 of the Dajiji gas field. The resource layer for the second-phase capacity expansion project is Coal No. 8 from the Taiyuan Formation; the area to be utilized is 251.2 km², with reserves amounting to 58.52 billion m³. The designed production capacity is 1.5 billion m³ per year, the construction period is 2 years, and the stable production period is 11 years. The main construction components include 110 well sites (including 5 central well sites), 2 water distribution stations, 3 booster pump stations, 909 km of various gas and water pipelines, as well as supporting facilities.
