Setting of the manual valve upstream of the minimum flow line for the high-pressure feed pump

As the title suggests: I would like to ask the experts here – are there upstream valves set at the minimum flow rate in your high-pressure hydrogenation units? I saw a drawing in which it wasn’t included; I don’t know why. If anyone knows, please share your insights

Brother upstairs, don’t be so sure about that. I’ve really seen cases where it’s definitely not the case – only downstream valves are designed, while upstream valves aren’t.
In my opinion, the upstream valve is merely used to isolate the system in case there is a problem with the control valve; it’s useful if it’s available. This way, the area that needs to be isolated is small, and less oil needs to be drained. It’s okay if there isn’t one; if there is a problem with the minimum flow control valve that needs to be fixed, then the pump certainly won’t be usable for some time. In such cases, all the inlet and outlet valves of the pump should be closed to isolate it, and after draining the oil, the issue can be addressed. So, it’s fine without an upstream valve, as it is connected to the pump, but it becomes problematic without a downstream valve, since the downstream side is connected to the public pipeline.
