Ensure that the pipeline is filled with diesel in advance, and remove any water present by draining it at low points several times.
As a supplementary note, try to open the wall valve as late as possible; opening it too early can allow steam and condensate to enter, resulting in the pump not being able to deliver sufficient flow. The wall valve can be opened before starting the pump.
It is sufficient to add a crossover line before the diesel outlet to the inlet of the primary pump.
