We have a piece of equipment for which the design requirement is a thickness of not less than 100 mm. We used sheets with a thickness of 103 mm, and an external U-shaped groove was employed. After automatic welding on the outside, the surface was ground to make it level with the base material; filling welds were performed manually on the inside. However, the surface quality after manual welding is inferior to that achieved through automatic welding, and the quality after grinding is poor, so the surface was ground slightly deeper. As a result, the weld is slightly lower than the base material, with the deepest point being around 1 mm. Nevertheless, the entire weld is generally lower than the base material, and its thickness measures 101 or 102 mm, which meets the requirements specified in the drawings. But after all, the weld is below the base material, which seems to not meet the standard requirements. Is it necessary to treat such a weld? Is rewelding needed? Are there any other good ways to handle this?
It needs to be rewelded, right? On 150, whether it’s E1 or E2, the value should be greater than or equal to 0, right?
However, the entire weld is substantially lower than the base material, so this does not meet the requirements. It needs to be rewelded.
It doesn’t matter what thickness you use for the board, as long as it meets these minimum height requirements and the design specifications
The weld must not be lower than the base material; repair welding is required.
