It’s incorrect for people to ask about the explosion limit based solely on the composition of the gas, as you haven’t specified the temperature and pressure under which the process takes place; these two factors have a significant impact on the explosion limit. The data available online was obtained under normal temperature and pressure conditions, and it’s even more wrong to use such data when applying LeChatelier’s formula. Research shows that the LeChatelier equation has significant limitations; it works well for substances with similar structures, such as methane, ethane, propane, and butane, or ethylene, propylene, and butylene, but it is not appropriate when using a mixture of alkanes and alkenes. To this end, Sinopec Safety Engineering Institute has independently developed a high-temperature and high-pressure explosion limit tester capable of determining the explosion limits of multi-component gases under conditions of room temperature to 400 degrees Celsius, and normal pressure to 2 MPa.
