What are Process water (PW), Tempered water (TW), and Utility water (UW)? Tempered water is softened water; what is the difference between it and demineralized water?
PW should be introduced into the process system to come into contact with other media; in most cases, it is pure water. TW should refer to warm water; soft water is a term used in contrast to hard water. Deionized water removes more ions than soft water, as it eliminates not only calcium and magnesium but also other ions, and distilled water is usually deionized water. UW is the general term, right?
Tempered water – literally, it means constant-temperature water, or water with a regulated temperature. It means that the temperature of water remains basically stable within a certain range, and it is often involved in heat exchange. It is indicating the functions (uses) of water. And the “soft water” mentioned by the original poster refers to the properties of the water. Function and nature are two different things; do not confuse them. TW depends on the strictness of the water quality requirements under the operating conditions; it can be desalinated water, circulating cooling water, soft water, and so on.
Desalted water refers to the purified water obtained by using various water treatment processes to remove impurities in water such as suspended solids, colloids, and inorganic cations and anions. Demineralized water does not mean that all salts in the water have been completely removed; due to technical constraints and considerations related to production costs, trace impurities are allowed to be present in demineralized water depending on its intended use. The fewer impurities in the desalinated water, the higher its purity. Softened water: Water that has been softened, meaning water from which some or all of the calcium and magnesium ions have been removed. One removes only calcium and magnesium, while the other removes almost all of them
Utility water (UW) refers to municipal water supply, that is, the regular water supplied from the usual municipal water treatment plants through their pipelines.
For process water (PW), it can simply be called by the name of the specific type of water; tempered water (TW), utility water (UW) – what kind of water are these? Tempered water is softened water; what’s the difference between it and demineralized water? There isn’t really any difference – it depends on how your organization names it. But generally, demineralized water is denoted as DW
