Approval Granted for Pilot Production of Methanol Plant at Shaanxi Coal Chemical Energy 2015-7 On July 13, 2015, the application submitted by Shaanxi Coal Chemical Energy Co., Ltd. for pilot production of part of the production facilities in Phase 1 of its 1 million tons per year coal-based dimethyl ether project (a methanol production facility with an output of 600,000 tons per year) was approved by the Shaanxi Provincial Environmental Protection Department. The project is located in the Wulipu Industrial Park, Changwu County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. The total investment amount is 5.4 billion yuan, of which 277.5015 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures, accounting for approximately 5.14% of the total investment. The project uses coal as a raw material to produce dimethyl ether via methanol, employing the multi-feed slurry gasification technology from the Northwest Research Institute and the methanol synthesis technology from Swiss company Cassali. The planned capacity for the dimethyl ether production is 1 million tons per year, but in practice, only a phase 1 facility with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year of methanol was built. On June 25, 2015, the first phase of Xumine Group’s Shaanxi Changqing Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 1.5 million tons per year methanol production project, namely the 600,000 tons per year methanol production facility, passed the completion inspection organized by the Baoji Development and Reform Commission in Shaanxi Province. The project is located in Changqing Industrial Park, Fengxiang County, Baoji, Shaanxi. With an initial investment of around 3.8 billion yuan, it utilizes GE gasification technology as well as Swiss Cassali methanol synthesis technology. Construction began in March 2011, and the pilot operation was successful in May 2013. On June 19, 2015, the Shaanxi Provincial Environmental Protection Department issued an official approval for the environmental protection inspection upon completion of this project.
