How is the seal tank of the lean methanol pump sealed?

Many purification devices have pumps equipped with sealing tanks; some of these are referred to as siphon tanks. I’m not very familiar with this concept. In these sealing tanks, some use methanol while others use white oil. How is sealing achieved in these tanks? Are there any other sealing forms?
