I’ve been interested in industrial compressors lately; I bought some books on the topic but there are a few things I don’t understand, so I’m here to ask for help! As follows: the compressor’s specifications indicate a flow rate of 20 m3/min at 0.85 MPa. So, does 20m3 refer to the flow rate of free gas being drawn in? Or does it refer to the compressed gas at 20 m3 after compression? Or does it refer to the 20 m3 of free gas discharged after compression? What stage’s pressure is 0.85 MPa? I once encountered a client whose usage gas flow rate was 10 Nm3/min, with a pressure of 0.85 MPa. I used formulas to calculate this gas volume myself; please help me check it. The calculation is QF=10*【0.10132*(273.15+20)】÷【(0.85+0.10132)*273.15】, and the resulting value is 11.43028 m3/min. What troubles me even more is the pressure dew point at -40°C, as the gas used must be at a temperature below 5°C. I hope this issue can be resolved
It generally refers to the volume, mass, etc., of the effective gas components at the standard inlet condition or reference condition
It refers to the outlet flow rate and pressure under standard conditions of 0 degrees Celsius and 1.013 atmospheres, or the converted values under design conditions.
The compressed air can be cooled to below 5 degrees before being fed into a molecular sieve purifier to ensure that the dew point meets the required standards.
Can I understand it this way: the compressor manufacturer is using inlet parameters instead of outlet parameters to deceive me?
I always thought it was the engineering standard condition of 20°C
I’m still confused about how to cool it below 5°C. Also, isn’t the main function of molecular sieves purification? Does it have a positive effect on the pressure dew point?
The standard conditions can be asked from the compressor manufacturer. For cooling, an outlet water cooler can be used; for water removal, the air after cooling can pass through a molecular sieve purifier. The desired dew point level can be specified to the manufacturer, who will then carry out the calculations.
The purification function of a molecular sieve purifier is mainly to remove moisture and carbon dioxide from the air.
