Hello everyone, I’m a beginner. I currently need to calculate the head of a pump, but I’m not sure how to do it; I hope someone can help me out. The specific parameters are as follows: Transfer pump: Medium flow rate: 60 m³/h; Vertical height: 25 m; Elbows: 5; Shut-off valves: 2; Straight pipe sections: 35 m. Medium: Sodium hypochlorite solution (~0.08 wt%, pH=5-10). Density: 1000 Kg/m³; Viscosity: 1 mPa·s. That’s all I seem to know for now; if anyone needs other parameters, I’ll try to find them. It’s urgent, so I hope everyone can help. It would be great if you could explain how to calculate these values and what formulas are used. Thank you

Consult the chemical pipeline manual, calculate the resistance for each section, add them together, and then account for any excess.
Knowing the relative positions of the two conveying ends, as well as whether they are open systems or pressurized vessels, it is possible to calculate the head using Bernoulli’s equation
It’s obvious that they want to learn the calculation methods; the head pressure of a pump is easy to determine – just add the height and the pipeline losses, and that’s it.

For calculations, the Bernoulli equation is used: height difference + pipeline losses + kinetic energy required (to meet the flow rate). When selecting a pump, experience is sufficient – experience in transporting water is enough; the difficulty of transporting this medium is similar to that of water. A head of 0.6 Mpa is sufficient for such applications. The head you calculate must also be available on the market; it’s not possible to customize one just for you. The flow rate should be greater than 60 m3/h

The height is 25 m; pipeline losses are estimated at 3–5 m. A head of 32 m is selected. The equipment connected to the pump outlet is assumed to be at atmospheric pressure, which should be sufficient (if the inlet pressure is higher, the required head can be reduced further).
